Dear Friends and Family,
Welcome!
I am experiencing several firsts; I've never written a blog before and I've never written for a large audience (save for a few emails at work with a large "cc:" list). And, oh yeah, I've never made a meandering 9,000-mile round-trip to Alaska over the period of about 2 months. I am looking forward to it! I hope you can check in with me periodically along the way. I will post entries whenever the spirit moves me and my cell phone coverage permits. (More about the technology that makes these blogs possible later...)
FYI: The term "blog" is a truncated form of "web log" - or online journal. The blog will display my journal entries in reverse chronological order. The term, blog, is used in different ways; I am blogging. I am a blogger.
My goal during this trip is to have fun and to see new places. My goals of blogging:
- Record my journey. Interesting experiences, places, and people. I want to remember it all!
- Entertain and educate you. (Feel free to entertain and educate me at any time by clicking on "Comments" button below any post.)
All for now. It is getting on towards the end of April 2006. I don't intend to start my Alaska trip until sometime at the end of May, so I'll be able to provide many more details before then.

Dude,
You are insane. This is one heck of a trip. By my estimates, you'll be travelling 150 miles per day every day of the trip. Is this the summer/spring for great trips? Another friend of mine is making a similar trip, from AK to DC, about the same time. Madness... OK, I'm looking forward to your updates and I hope gas stays below $70/barrel for the sake of Conrad's appetite.
